Experience and Custom Designs: A long career working in a few different environments has resulted in a very broad experience base. The custom home designs tab incorporated this web site illustrates some of that experience. The pleasure of working with people and helping solve their residential design problems with them continues to be a strong draw.
The Smaller Home Design Ideas: This selection of smaller diy oriented home plans captures small design (core) ideas that have been rummaging around in the design brain waiting for an opportunity to be put into form. Being semi-retired from a many decades long career in custom residential architecture has allowed the time to pursue these designs. I might emphasize here that these core idea choices are of my choosing. They are not market driven. They may be layout driven, or energy driven, or efficiency driven, or structurally driven. They are investigations. They will, regardless of other intent, typically list toward open space and generous glass. And all designs have been taken through the paces regarding constructability and structure. The apology is that one has to scan thru them to cipher any interest or appropriateness. To that end the scanning process has been made simple and clear in the Smaller Home Ideas menu.
Bio Personal Notes: I spent the first stint of my working career in upstate New York in a small residential design-build operation that included a fairly sophisticated custom cabinet and millwork shop. How to build things was a significant takeaway from that 15 year experience. The balance of my career has been as sole proprietor doing residential architecture almost exclusively. First in New York, subsequently in the ‘Triangle’ and coastal regions of North Carolina, and currently in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Asheville, North Carolina. I was first licensed and NCARB certified while in New York. The Personal Homes tab offers a little more design related bio information.
