    Expansion Series House Plans

A core house design sets itself up to be intelligently expanded

Description: Expandable home designs are ‘set up’ to become expanded home designs.  These base designs are self contained and functional as is. The expanded series shows fully integrated wings allowing that base home design to be significantly and seamlessly enhanced as time and budget permits.

Size: Base home designs are 1296 sf  to 1640 sf. Expansion home designs increase footage up to 2000 sf.

Style: The expandable designs have a ‘form’ that is boxy. The expanded designs, with their projected wings, change that boxy characteristic. Style is varied.

    Series Overview

Expansion Concept:  The idea of constructing a perfectly livable home with the idea of future expansion is viable. And it certainly fits the DIY way of thinking. The starter home can become the complete home.

Expandable Designs: The design core is a  footprint base of 24′ x 24′. The main levels do have some additional footprint space outside the 24′ box usually incorporating entry and mud room functions. Each base design incorporates a straightforward upper level with 2 bedrooms within the 24′ square footprint. Future ‘wings’ need to be 24′ or less in depth so they can abut the main house box without fussy corner and roof connection conditions. These box designs are all ‘set up’ to be added to.

Expanded Designs: The integrations of the expanded wings is obvious in all the 2d plans and 3d images. The 3 functional enhancements are contained in ‘wings’, typically an enclosed garage (left side), a master suite (right side), and an enhanced exterior living design (rear). They are independent of one another increasing the flexibility of any project expansion.

Size: The 24′ box rules the general size and scale of all spaces in these designs. This size and scale is typical of the thinking for this project where designs are large enough to be comfortable in. Understandable appetites for more space require the core box to be expanded.
